Joseph Phelps

The "Joseph Phelps Winery" is located east of St. Helena in Napa Valley, California. Former building contractor Joseph Phelps came to Napa Valley to build a winery for a client. He came to the taste and realization that making wine was a better occupation and founded his own winery in 1972. Today, the vineyards cover 140 hectares in the exposed AVA areas of Los Carneros, Napa Valley, Oakville, Rutherford and Stags Leap District. Grapes such as Chardonnay from Los Carneros are also purchased. The flagship is the "Insignia" produced in Bordeaux style (mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot). Of the Varietals, "Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyards" and "Ovation Chardonnay" are worth mentioning. Furthermore, there are Rhône-style wines from Grenache Noir, Syrah and Viognier, as well as "Le Mistral", produced in the style of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, from Grenache Noir, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Grenache Noir and Alicante Bouchet. Under the name of "Eisrébe", a type of ice wine (the grapes are frozen after harvesting) is produced from 100% Scheurebe grapes of a single variety. Between 65,000 and 60,000 cases of wine are produced each year. A second winery was established in Sonoma County in 1999.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
