Illinois is one of the most important agricultural states of the USA. The famous Californian wine growing pioneer Joseph "Joe" Heitz (1919-2000) was born here. Shawnee Hills was classified as the first and so far only AVA area in 2007. There are about 20 producers, known are Fox Creek Vineyards, Glunz Family Winery & Cellars, Lynfred Winery, Mary Michelle Winery, Piasa Winery, Schorr Lake Vineyards and Waterloo Winery.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
