This famous company, based in the city of Jerez, is the pioneer in Spain of Brandy de Jerez (brandy) and the famous dessert wine sherry par excellence. The history of its origins goes back to the 1730s, when Patrick Murphy, who immigrated from Ireland, started to grow wine together with a Juan Haurie. After Murphy's death in 1762, Haurie took over the estate, which already included the best sherry sites of Carrascal and Macharnudo. Pedro Domecq Lebaye (+1839) was Haurie's nephew and inherited the estate from his uncle in 1794. At the beginning of the 19th century, the partners Ruskin, Telford and Domecq shared ownership and management. Under this name, the company dominated the British sherry market and rose to become a multi-national.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
