Chinosol

Chinosol W (trade name) is an antimycotic fungicide consisting of the active ingredients hydroxyquinoline sulphate and potassium sulphate. In viticulture it is used as a preventive measure against botrytis and pathogenic soil fungi in top-graft vines and rootstocks during grafting. For this purpose they are immersed in a 0.5% quinosol solution for 12 to 18 hours. The agent was successfully introduced in the 1960s by Dr. Helmut Becker (1927-1990), the long-time director of the Geisenheim Institute. The previously high losses due to botrytis infestation during refinement could be drastically reduced. See also under Vine nursery.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
