The Cantina Kaltern winery is located in the municipality of Kaltern (Caldaro) in the Italian wine-growing area of South Tyrol ( Trentino-South Tyrol region). It was created from the merger of the original four Kaltern winery co-operatives. The Erste Kellerei and Neue Kellerei (founded in 1900 and 1925 respectively) had already merged in 1986 to form the Erste+Neue winery cooperative. In 1992, the Bauernkellerei merged with the Jubiläumskellerei (founded in 1906 and 1908 respectively) to form Cantina Kaltern. In 2016, the final step was taken to create a joint winery, whereby the Erste+Neue brand and wines were retained. Around 590 winegrowing families cultivate a total of around 4,400 hectares of vineyards in the best locations around Lake Kaltern, as well as in other municipalities in South Tyrol.
