The winery is located in the town of Almendralejo (Badajoz province) in the DO Ribera del Guadiana in the Spanish region of Extremadura. It was founded in 1940 by D. José Ortiz Tolosa and is now run by the third generation of the family. The vineyards in the sub-area Tierra de Barros are mainly planted with the red wine varieties Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the white wine varieties Pardina and Macabeo. The wines are partly aged in American and French oak. They are produced under the brands Castillo de Feria, Charnecal, Señorío de Orán and Viña Roja.
