The winery "Beringer Vineyards" in St. Helena in California's Napa Valley was founded in 1876 by the immigrant brothers Jakob (1845-1915) and Frederick Beringer (1840-1901) from Germany. The "Rhine House," built in 1883 in the Rheingau timber-framed style, is now a tourist attraction. Below this house is a cellar that offers ideal conditions for winemaking.
The vineyard areas cover several hundred hectares, including about 250 hectares in Napa Valley. Ed Sbragia, who was the winemaker from 1984 to 2008, created the famous "Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon," which is considered one of the best wines of the estate. Other wine lines include California Collection, Founders Estate, Knights Valley, Napa Valley, Stone Cellars, and Third Century. After several changes of ownership, including to Nestlé, Beringer was acquired in 2000 by the Australian brewing giant Foster’s Group, which had already bought the Australian group Mildara Blass in 1996. The company was finally spun off as part of Treasury Wine Estates in 2011.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
