Batalla del Vino

The "Battle of the Wine" is held annually in June in the Spanish city of Haro in the Rioja region. The custom dates back to the Middle Ages, when the Castilian cities of Mirande de Ebro and Haro fought bloody battles over border disputes. Today, every year on Peter and Paul Day, a peaceful battle takes place in memory of this event, with the crowd, dressed in white, splashing each other with red wine.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
