Barrel contents

An official calibration should be carried out every four to five years, because wooden barrels are getting smaller. The easiest way to determine the barrel volume is by weighing the empty barrel and the barrel filled with water. Other possibilities are a measuring or counting clock or with a meter stick (table required). When determining by means of a slanting measure (binder sight), the bunghole is measured after both notches, divided by two and the number of litres read off directly. See also a complete list of relevant keywords under barrel.
