The Franz Zottlöderer winery is located in the municipality of Strass im Strassertale in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kamptal. The winery was one of the first in Austria to specifically use barrique vinification. The vineyards cover eight hectares of vineyards in the renowned Gaisberg, Hasel, Sandgrube and Wechselberg vineyards on loess, loam, primary rock, gravel and heavy calcareous soils. 80% of the vineyards are planted with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, and 20% with the red varieties Blauer Portugieser and Zweigelt. The wine is traditionally matured in large wooden barrels as well as in barriques. The main focus is on wines that are typical for the variety and the region and that can be stored. The premium wines include Neuburger Strasser Gaisberg, Chardonnay Strasser Wechselberg, Riesling Strasser Gaisberg, Grüner Veltliner Strasser Gaisberg and Grüner Veltliner Strasser Hasel. Fine spirits (grapes, pomace, fruit, wine) are also produced. In addition, bottle-fermented Riesling sparkling wines are also produced. In the vinotheque, wines are offered all the way back to the 1960 vintage.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
