The red grape variety comes from Montenegro. It must not be confused with the Sysak (Azerbaijan) or Syrah (with sometimes used synonym Zizak) varieties, as DNA analyses carried out in 2010 have proven its independence. However, the parentage (parenthood) is unknown. It yields full-bodied red wines, which serve as blends. No stock was reported in 2010 (Kym Anderson).
