The German biologist and vine grower Dr. Johannes Zimmermann (1907-1998) studied natural sciences and then took the state examination in biology, chemistry and geography. In 1934, he joined the then Baden Viticulture Institute in Freiburg where he was responsible for grape breeding and microbiology. From 1937 onwards, the Baden vine breeding was transferred to the Reichsrebenzüchtung Baden, which Johannes Zimmermann headed until the end of the war in 1945. He worked at the State Viticulture Institute in Freiburg (Baden-Württemberg) until 1972, where Zimmermann was a pioneer in the disciplines of clone selection and cross-breeding and dealt with the issue of being able to avoid the use of chemical plant protection agents as far as possible.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
