Riede (site) in the municipality of Berghausen in the Austrian wine-growing region of southern Styria, which extends into neighbouring Slovenia. The vineyards, which are oriented from west to southwest, at an altitude of up to 470 metres above sea level with a slope of 35 to 45%, cover 12 hectares. In the upper area there are old water wells. To protect against erosion caused by abundant precipitation, some areas are drained. In the upper area, which is interspersed with shell limestone, there is blue marl at a depth of up to 12 metres, which also emerges in some places. The white wine varieties Chardonnay or Morillon, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Silvaner, Riesling, Traminer, Pinot Blanc and Welschriesling, the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Steirischer Mischsatz are cultivated. Shares in the vineyard are held, for example, by the wineries Domäne Müller, Primus and Tement Manfred (picture).
