The winery is located in the municipality of Pommern (Cochem Castle area) in the German Moselle wine-growing region. Viticulture has been practised by this traditional family since 1636. The foundation stone for the business was laid in 1912 by Johann Zenzen with the construction of the residential building. After the Second World War (1939-1945), Ewald Zenzen began marketing the wines in bottles. Following his training as a master winemaker, the winery is now run by the fourth generation of the family, Frank Zenzen, who is supported by his father Otmar Zenzen. The family also rents out holiday flats.
The vineyards cover four hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Goldberg, Rosenberg, Sonnenuhr and Zeisel (Pommern). They are planted to 75% with the leading variety Riesling, as well as smaller quantities of Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Pinot Blanc. Only physiologically ripe grapes with a reduced yield are selected and processed, taking into account the optimum harvest time. The wines are produced traditionally and matured exclusively in large wooden barrels. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, brandies(marc, yeast), liqueurs and grape juice are also produced.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
