The red grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Zalobitiko, Zalobitico, Zalovitico and Zalovitika. The origin (parentage) is unknown. The vine is cultivated sporadically in central Greece, Thessaly and northern Greece. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
