The white grape variety (also Freiburg 339) is a new variety between Traminer(Gewürztraminer) x Riesling, which was confirmed by DNA analyses published in 2013. The crossbreeding was carried out in 1939 by Dr. Johannes Zimmermann (1907-1998) at the State Viticulture Institute in Freiburg (Baden-Württemberg). The name was given after the noble family of the same name, which had their seat at Zähringen Castle near Freiburg. She was a crossbreeding partner in the new breed Souvignier Gris. In the year 2016 no stocks were shown (Kym Anderson).
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
