Another name for Petri's disease; see there.

The dangerous vine disease is named after the Italian plant pathologist Lionello Petri (1875-1946), who first described it in 1912. The name was coined by the US traffic light photographer Lucie Morton Garrett. It was observed on a larger scale in South Africa from the 1950s onwards. It is also known as Black goo disease, Black Xylem Decline (BXD) and Young Vine Decline (YVD).
