Yemen

The state in the Middle East on the Arabian Peninsula with the capital Sanaa borders Saudi Arabia to the north, Oman to the east, the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea to the south and the Red Sea to the west. The two states of Djibouti and Eritrea are about 20 and 30 kilometres away, respectively, across the Red Sea. Due to the Islamic ban on alcohol, there is only a small amount of viticulture. The vineyard area covers about 14,000 hectares, which are mainly used for the production of table grapes (for example aasimy) and sultanas.
