The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between a vine of the species Coignetiae x Merlot. It contains genes from Vitis coignetiae and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed at Yamanashi University in Kofu on Honshu in Japan. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
