The red grape variety (also Xynotragano) originates from Greece. The origin (parentage) is unknown. The vine produces red wines with high acidity, which is also the reason for its name (sour grapes). It is cultivated in the Epirus region. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
