Würtz-Königsmühle

The winery is located in the municipality of Gau-Odernheim (Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. It was only founded in 2001 by Dirk Würtz. He had studied business administration, political science and philology. Würtz was first introduced to wine by a friend of the family, who got him enthusiastic about viticulture with an ancient Bordeaux. As a career changer, he was an intern at Weingut Weil Robert from 1996 to 2001, where he was jointly responsible for the Rieslings of the famous Rheingau winery. He then leased the old Königsmühle in Gau-Odernheim as well as about six hectares of vineyards in partly excellent Uelversheim sites and still vinified his first own vintage at Weil during the last year. From the very beginning, his high goal was to make great wines without having to take site names into consideration.
