Worldwide Sommelier Association

The World Sommelier Association (WSA) was founded in 1965 under the auspices of the Italian association "Associazione Italiana Sommelier". As of 2016, there are 24 sub-associations or member countries. The president is the Italian Franco M. Ricci. The main objective is to promote the "wine and food culture" by organizing events such as wine tastings. Every two years competitions for the best sommelier are held. Another sommelier association is the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale, which organizes world championships every three years. See also under Wine Institutions.
