The winegrowers' cooperative in the municipality of Neckenmarkt in the Austrian winegrowing region of Mittelburgenland was founded in 1968. The cellar master in charge is Gerald Wieder, the chairman is Franz Heincz. The 140 members cultivate a total of 300 hectares of vines in the Himmelsthron, Hochberg and Sonnensteig vineyards. Almost exclusively red wine varieties are cultivated. The clear lead variety is Blaufränkisch (60%), followed by Zweigelt (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Merlot. On about 40 hectares, the "8 Grapes Programme" has been applied since 1992, with the help of which yields have been reduced to 5,000 to a maximum of 6,000 kilograms per hectare.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
