The origins of this winegrowers' cooperative in the town of Krems in Lower Austria, with the address Sandgrube 13, go back to the Krems and Stein winegrowers' guild founded in 1447, the oldest winegrowers' association in the German-speaking world. In 1938, quality-conscious winegrowers from the Krems and Stein winegrowers' guild founded the Winzer Krems. From the 1950s to the 1970s, many surrounding winegrowers' cooperatives were incorporated into WINZER KREMS. From 1989 to 2019, Franz Ehrenleitner was responsible as managing director. During this time, a press house equipped according to the most modern aspects with a fermentation and maturing cellar was put into operation, the vinothek cellar Bründlgraben was expanded and the wine experience world "Sandgrube 13 wein.sinn" was implemented with around 30,000 visitors annually. On a tour in eight stations, visitors can take a look behind the scenes at Winzer Krems. Ludwig Holzer has been responsible since 2019.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
