Winery Sonnenberg

The winery is located in the community of Bad Neuenahr in the German Ahr wine region at the foot of the red wine hiking trail. It was founded in 1980 by the Görres family, the grandparents of Marc Linden, with 1.5 hectares at that time. The manor house, an art nouveau villa, was built by the Mülhens family, better known as "4711". A Straußwirtschaft is attached. Wine tastings and wine walks are organized. The premises can be used for private and commercial events. Since 2005 the business has been run by Marc Linden and his wife Michaela. The work in the vineyard and cellar is based on the two principles "Class instead of mass" and "Kissed by wood, but not slain".

Weingut Sonnenberg - Betriebsgebäude

The vineyards comprise seven hectares of vines in the individual locations Daubhaus, Forstberg, Riegelfeld, Rosenthal, Silberberg and Ursulinengarten (Ahrweiler), Schieferlay and Sonnenberg (Bad Neuenahr), as well as Alte Lay, Himmelchen and Kräuterberg (Walporzheim). They are planted withPinot Noir (70%) andPinot Noir (30%), as well as PinotGris (30%) andPinot Blanc (30%). The vines are cultivated in a natural, environmentally friendly manner with greenery, compost and straw cover to protect against erosion and to promote soil life. The use of insecticides has been avoided for many years. With the help of our own weather station, infections caused by fungal diseases in the vineyard can be optimally determined and the necessary plant protection measures can be kept to a minimum.

As a quality-enhancing, yield-reducing measure, the plots are "halved"(thinning) shortly after flowering. Only physiologically ripe grapes are selectively harvested by hand and processed. The old vaulted cellar is equipped with the latest cellar technology. The winery specialises in producing classically matured, fruity wines typical of the region, matured in traditional wooden barrels. About 80% of the wines are dry aged. Among the premium wines of the house are Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Auslese "A", Spätburgunder "R" unfiltered and the Frühburgunder. Around 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Fine brandies and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
