The wine guide was founded in1992 by the Swiss wine critic René Gabriel (*1957) and the gastronomy and wine journalist Wolfram Meister as an "independent newsletter for everyone who wants to know more about wine". In July 2008 the magazine was taken over 100% by the German media house Konradin Selection GmbH in Mainz. The new owner is a 100% subsidiary of the Konradin Media Group (Bild der Wissenschaft, Industrieanzeiger, Computer Zeitung, Natur & Kosmos). Among other things already "Selection", a wine customer magazine for specialized trade and gastronomy is published. However, René Gabriel will remain as author and expert. Every year, more than 4,000 wines are evaluated according to the 20-point system. In addition, the wine market is analysed and news of wineries and their owners is published. Subscribers receive a print edition eleven times a year and have unlimited access to the website with archive and wine cellar.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
