Wine consultant

Special field or additional qualification for persons working in the wine trade. The training or qualification is very similar to that of sommelier. The professional qualification includes oenology(winemaking, most important wine-growing countries and regions, harmony of wine and food, sensory analysis), commercial basics and marketing (storage, market analysis, product and price policy, key business figures), sales and rhetoric (initiation of business, handling of complaints). This must be proven in a public law examination on the basis of the legal regulations of the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce). Prerequisite for the examination as "IHK-Weinfachberater" is a successfully completed final examination in a recognized commercial training profession and at least one year of relevant professional experience or a comparable qualification. Specialists who advise wineries perform another function. See Consultants and Flying Winemakers. See also a list of all professions and functions under the keyword Winemaking training.
