Name for the sour cherry or sour cherry (Prunus cerasus); a plant species from the rose family. The name is derived from the finely acidic taste of the fruit. In some sources, however, deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna) is also called this, a poisonous plant species with mostly black, cherry-like berry fruits. When referring to wine, red wines in particular are often said to have sour cherry or cherry aromas. See also under aroma substances.

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
