Wimmet

An old term (also Wümmet) used locally in the German-speaking world for the grape harvest. It is still used today in the Austrian region of Styria, in German-speaking Switzerland (in Valais it is called Wimdu) and in South Tyrol (here Wimmen). This is derived from the term "Weimer" used in South Tyrol for the grapes that are "gewimmt" (harvested) in autumn. See also under Weinber (term for grape) and Customs in viticulture.
