History

Viticulture dates back to the early 19th century. The first experiments with vines took place in river valleys along the Ohio River. However, modern viticulture did not develop until the 1970s, when French hybrids were introduced in some states on the Atlantic coast on the initiative of the American viticulture pioneer Philip Wagner (1904-1996), which proved to be resistant to the humid climate.
