The winery is located in the free city of Rust in Burgenland (Austria). The winery is one of the oldest in the village and is managed by Robert and Christa Wenzel and their son Michael. Part of the ancient vaulted cellar dating from the 16th century has been converted into a wine museum with, for example, old equipment and historical wine literature. The vineyards cover 11 hectares and are situated in the best Rust vineyards such as Kleiner Wald, Pandkräftn, Satz and Vogelsang. They are 60% planted with the white varieties Furmint, Gelber Muskateller, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Welschriesling, and 40% with the red varieties Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir and Merlot. The speciality of the house are sweet high predicate wines. Traditionally, in the best years this is the Ruster Ausbruch in the two cuvée varieties "Am Fuße des Berges" (Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Welschriesling) and "Saz" (Furmint, Gelber Muskateller). For the red wines, the main focus is on Blaufränkisch and Pinot Noir. About 35,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Old wines dating back to 1960 are offered. Since 2002 Michael Wenzel is president of the Cercle Ruster Ausbruch.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
