Wellington (South Africa)

The wine growing area (Ward) in South Africa, named after the small town of the same name, belongs to the District Paarl (Coastal Region) and is located north of the town of Paarl. The hot climate favours the production of red wines from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinotage varieties. Specialities are noble sweet dessert wines from Gewürztraminer and port wine like products. The most famous wineries are Bovlei, Claridge, Linton Park, Mont du Toit (with German participation), Wamakers Vallei and Wellington Wynkelder.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
