Weinknecht

Old winegrowing profession in the Middle Ages (also cellar servant). The wine servants were employed by innkeepers and assisted them in tapping and serving the wine. There were also wine servants in the public service of the town, who supervised the payment of the so-called " Ungeld " (tax). In the event of violations of the cellar law, they also took over the punishment of the sinners. In large towns they were organised in guilds. See also a list of other functions under customs in viticulture.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
