The association was founded in 1989 and is an amalgamation of the local winegrowing associations in the Eisenberg winegrowing region (then known as Südburgenland). The vision was to create, in a joint effort, a wine country that would be internationally recognised for its special characteristics. Wine quality is to be improved and joint marketing activities promoted. The two leading varieties are Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling, other typical varieties are Blauburger, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zweigelt. Every year, the 60 best wines are selected from those that meet the mission statement in a covert wine tasting by supra-regional wine experts. These are labelled as "The Best 60 from the Wine Idyll" and offered for one year in the area wine shop in Moschendorf. Over the years, a number of projects have been realised, such as a nature park on 14,000 hectares, as well as the wine museum in Moschendorf with houses and cellars in restored original condition from the last four centuries.
Using the encyclopaedia is not only time-saving, but also extremely convenient. What's more, the information is always up to date.
