The wine trading company "Wein Wolf Deutschland" was founded in 1978 by the pioneer of the wine and gourmet scene Karl-Heinz "Carlo" Wolf (1949-2017). Subsequently, several wine trading companies were acquired (see below). Finally, in 1991, the company and all its subsidiaries were sold to the German wine trading group Hawesko Holding AG. Wolf then founded the company "Wein Wolf Österreich" in Salzburg in 1998, which, however, also went to Hawesko just two years later.
The original five sub-organisations were merged into two. Sales are now handled by Wein Service Bonn GmbH in Bonn. The accounting, controlling and payroll departments are combined in Wein Service Bonn GmbH. Subsidiaries are Alexander Baron von Essen, Deutschwein Classics, Gebr. J. & M. Ziegler (distillery), Vogel Vins and Weinland Ariane Abayan. These each distribute their own ranges. Wein Service Bonn GmbH supports them with back-office functions.
