Designation for an impression perceived in the context of a wine talk or wine evaluation, which is characterised by a mild, slightly sweet aroma of beeswax. The waxy impression is soft, restrained and slightly fatty, without being dominant or intrusive, and can also make the wine appear rounder and smoother. Waxy notes are favoured in certain grape varieties, including Chenin Blanc, Marsanne, Sémillon, Pinot Gris and Vermentino, although this depends heavily on the ageing, maturity and style of wine.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
