Negative description of the flavour or overall impression of a wine in the context of a wine review or wine rating. Such a wine has too little body, too low an alcohol content and a weak overall extract and therefore appears lacking in strength and character. The causes can be excessive yields, insufficient physiological ripeness of the grapes, heavy rainfall shortly before the harvest and thus an overall diluted grape must, which weakens the flavours, acids and tannins in relation to the water content. Such a wine appears thin, pale and has little lasting flavour. Related terms are thin and hollow (empty, bland). Positive opposites are alcoholic, rich in extract, full-bodied, strong and powerful.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
