Wannemacher Josef

The winery is located in the municipality of Hagenbrunn at the city limits of Wien in the south of the Lower Austrian wine-growing region Weinviertel. It is connected to a wine tavern that has been in operation since 1936. Josef and Elisabeth Wannemacher are the fifth generation of the family to run the winery. The vineyards cover nine hectares on the slopes of the Bisamberg in the Hofmauer, Hölle, Leutl, Praschen and Tagnern vineyards. They are 70% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (about one third), Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Traminer, and 30% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and St. Laurent. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural, environmentally friendly way. The white wines are matured in steel tanks or in large wooden barrels, the red wines in large wooden barrels and partly also in barriques. Particular attention is paid to Grüner Veltliner. Premium wines are the two Weinviertel DAC (Grüner Veltliner) from the Hofmauer and Praschen vineyards, Riesling Exclusive and the red wine cuvée "Die Erfüllung". A bottle-fermented sparkling wine is also produced.
