The theologian and poet Wandalbert von Prüm (813-870) became a monk in 839 in the Benedictine Abbey Prüm in the West Eifel(Rhineland-Palatinate). He wrote a kind of liturgical calendar of saints for the church year. In it he also wrote about viticulture during the year. Wandalbert mentioned May wine for the first time.
