This designation for single vineyard sites is mostly derived from the walls with which the vineyards or at least parts of them are surrounded. These walls usually serve as protection against winds and animal pests.
The vineyards are south-south-east facing with a slope of 10 to 22% and cover 32 hectares of vineyards. The soils consist of deep, calcareous loess, in the border area to the Fuchsberg site also of marl. This enables deep rooting. The Riesling variety is mainly cultivated here. The Freimuth Alexander, Geisenheim and George wineries, for example, have a share in the site.
