District named after the bay of the same name on the Atlantic coast in the far west of South Africa
, which belongs to the Cape South Coast
region. It is located immediately north of the metropolis of Cape Town in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. There are the five Wards Bot River, Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Sunday's Glen and Upper Hemel-en-Arde Valley. The area is characterised by a mild maritime climate with permanently cooling sea breezes and calcareous soils. Especially the varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Merlot and Pinot Noir thrive here. Well-known wineries are Hamilton Russel
(near the seaside resort of Hermanus) and Bouchard Finlayson.
