Walker Bay

District named after the bay of the same name on the Atlantic coast in the far west of South Africa, which belongs to the Cape South Coast region. It is located immediately north of the metropolis of Cape Town in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. There are the five Wards Bot River, Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Sunday's Glen and Upper Hemel-en-Arde Valley. The area is characterised by a mild maritime climate with permanently cooling sea breezes and calcareous soils. Especially the varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Merlot and Pinot Noir thrive here. Well-known wineries are Hamilton Russel (near the seaside resort of Hermanus) and Bouchard Finlayson.
