The winery is located in the municipality of Elsarn (Straß im Straßertale) in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kamptal. It has been farmed by the family since 1871 and has been managed by the fourth generation of the family since 1994 by Reinhard Waldschütz, a trained master winemaker and cellarer. Since 2010, son Markus has also been working on the farm. The vineyards cover 27 hectares in the Hasel and Stangl vineyards. They are 80% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling and Frühroter Veltliner, and 20% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt and Merlot. The vineyards are cultivated close to nature with a high number of vines (3,800 to 4,000 per hectare), short pruning and defoliation of the grape zone. Through selective manual harvesting in two to three passes, only yield-reduced, physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are processed.

The aim of the winery is to produce fruity, fresh wines with a flavour typical of the region. After cool and slow fermentation for up to five weeks, the light white wines mature on the fine lees until the end of January. After the first filtration, bottling takes place at the end of February to preserve the extreme fermentation carbonic acid. The red wines are partly aged in barriques. For the top wines (white wine reserves), only the three to five most beautiful grapes per vine are left and harvested extremely late. These remain on the fine lees until the end of summer. These are the wines Riesling Wechselberg Reserve, Grüner Veltliner Aturo Kamptal DAC Reserve and Grüner Veltliner Rosengarten Kamptal DAC Reserve.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
