The white grape variety (also Violenti) originates from Greece. It used to be considered a clone of the Roditis variety, but this was disproved according to DNA analyses carried out in 2000. The parentage is unknown. The medium-maturing vine with reddish berries is particularly susceptible to downy mildew, but resistant to drought. It yields white wines rich in alcohol but low in acidity, which are used as blends. The variety is grown in small quantities on the Ionian island of Zakynthos. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
