The association "Vinissima - Frauen & Wein e.V." was founded in 1991 by seven wine women in the Kaiserstuhl region of Baden in southern Baden. New members are only accepted on the basis of a personal recommendation from a member. There are over 500 members in ten regional groups. The board is elected every two years during the general meeting. Re-election is only possible once, so all board positions are filled after four years at the latest. At that time, women were underrepresented in the wine industry. The exchange of knowledge and experience, getting to know each other personally and solidarity among each other are an essential part of the Vinissima idea. Vinissima sees itself as a nationwide, profession-related and cross-generational network for women who work as winemakers, oenologists, scientists, wine merch ants, restaurateurs, sommeliers, journalists or wine marketers. Further education and exchange of members are promoted through many activities at federal and regional level.
