The winery is located in the municipality of Elciego on the banks of the Ebro River in the Spanish Rioja sub-region of Rioja Alavesa. It was founded in 1969 by the Rivas family and friends and local winemakers. The first vintage produced was the legendary 1970, and today it is owned by the Julián Chivite winery (Navarre region). The vineyards cover 40 hectares of their own and another 100 hectares of rented vineyards in the two sub-areas Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The classic Rioja varieties Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo are cultivated. A total of 8,000 barrique barrels made of American and French oak are available for ageing. The Reservas and Gran Reservas are marketed under the label "Conde de la Salceda".

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
