The winery is located near Quintanilla de Onésimo in the DO area Ribera del Duero in the Spanish region of Castilla y León. It was founded in 1986 and is owned by "Hijos de Antonio Barceló S.A.". The bodega is built into the mountain. Its own vineyards cover only ten hectares of vines, which produce only 5% of the production. This means that large quantities of grapes are purchased from contract winegrowers. All the wines are 100% Tinta del País (Tempranillo). The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The Crianza matures for one year in mainly American, but also French barriques. With Reserva, Gran Reserva and the top wine "Secreto" the proportion of French oak is greater. Over two million bottles of wine are produced annually. There is the sister Bodega Peñascal, located in Tudela de Duero, where of 400 hectares of vineyards, Vinos de la Tierra Castilla y León (country wines) called Peñascal or Barceló are marketed. There are other wineries in the DO areas of Rueda and Toro.
