The French association "Vignerons Engagés" (responsible winegrowers) has set itself the goal of producing "sustainable wines". Iris Borrut (director of the association) describes this as follows: "A sustainable wine is a wine that conserves resources, enhances territories and allows winegrowers to make a living from their passion." The aim is to promote the "Vignerons Engagés" label and support all the actions of producers in a global approach to sustainable development, improve their production and achieve added value. The aim is to connect the players in the wine sector in order to facilitate dialogue, synergies and the emergence of sustainable solutions and to make progress together. The statutes are based on three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social and economic. This includes the entire production process from the vine to the wine glass, based on the ISO 26000 standard (sustainability management).
