The red grape variety is an open flowered seedling of the Clinton. Therefore, at least genes of Vitis riparia x Vitis labrusca are included. Synonyms are Clinton Vialla, La Touratte and Semis de Clinton. The hybrid was selected by the Frenchxhen breeder Durieu de Maisonneuve in France and was mainly used as rootstock in the course of the phylloxera catastrophe in the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century it was cultivated in Austria as a direct carrier also for wine production. In 2016 no stock was reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
