The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Austera, Guarnaccia, Varnaccia, Vernaccia, Vernazza, Vernazza Veronese and White Vernatsch. It is one of the many varieties with Vernaccia in its name. Nothing is known about the ancestry (parentage) or possible genetic connections. It used to be cultivated in Trentino, but is no longer important. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
