The "Viñedos y Bodegas Vera de Estenas" winery is located in the municipality of Utiel in the Spanish DO area of Utiel-Requena in the Spanish region of Valenciana. At the beginning of the 1980s, Francisco Martínez Bermell, oenologist and president of the Spanish Oenologists' Association and vice-president of the OIV, acquired the "Casa de Don Ángel" estate and planted vineyards. In the 1990s, his two sons took over the business. Today, Félix Martínez Roda is in charge together with his nephew Eduardo. Various events are organised, such as guided tours of the winery and vineyards, wine tours and wine tastings. The vineyards with calcareous soils cover 45 hectares of vines and are planted with the varieties Bobal (with some 100-year-old vines), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. They are cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture. The sub-area "Vera de Estenas" was classified as the highest Spanish wine quality level Vino de Pago in 2013. The wines are fermented in concrete amphorae and partly aged in these as well as old American oak barrels. DO wines Utiel-Requena and Cava (sparkling wine) are also produced.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
